Kean has succeeded in covering the Thistlegorm story from every conceivable angle, from the ship’s sinking to its discovery by Jacques Cousteau in 1955.

 DIVE Magazine

Here for the first time the true story of the Red Sea's greatest ship wreck is now revealed in spectacular detail in John Kean's SS Thistlegorm.

BSAC Training Agency

As a diving instructor who lives and works in Sharm El Sheikh, John Kean will know the Thistlegorm as well as any diver and is, therefore, as qualified as any to write a book about this fabulous shipwreck. Just as soon as I started to read his book it became quite clear that he has gone to a great deal of trouble to provide his fellow scuba divers with a complete guide to what he describes as “The Red Sea’s Greatest Shipwreck” and others would describe as the greatest shipwreck in the world. The end result is very good and everything you ever wanted to know appears to have been included…

Ned Middleton, Photo Journalist and Wreck Author

It’s been six years since the publication of the Thistlegorm book. In only a couple of months when the title began to appear on the search engines of the world did the first few emails arrive. Many of them read like this:

‘I have just read your book about the Thistlegorm and I was particularly interested because my grandfather served aboard her during WW2…’

Slowly, all sorts of people came out of the woodwork with tales of relatives who survived the sinking of the 6th October 1941. Furthermore, interest in Thistlegorm as a diving destination hasn’t waned and the wreck is as popular now as it was six years ago. I have therefore added much new material as new survivor accounts have come to light.

In recent years, digital photography has reached magazine and publication standard. I have as a result produced a whole new set of wreck photography showing Thistlegorm in all its glory. A special addition is Yann Vautrin’s pioneering photograph of the entire wreck underwater achieved with high quality digital stitching techniques never before used on a Red Sea wreck.

So, here is the all-new and fully updated special edition of John Kean’s Thistlegorm – The True Story of the Red Sea’s Greatest Ship Wreck. This amazing story reads like a fictional novel, however, all of the events and characters are very real. Sit back and enjoy the most revealing book ever written about this fabulous shipwreck.
